Construction
The new aquatics and community centre is currently being built next to Centennial Community Centre at the corner of East Sixth Avenue and McBride Boulevard. Learn more about the construction timeline and project impacts in the information below.
Construction Notice
As part of construction, the City of New Westminster will be conducting investigative work to locate underground utility services.
East Sixth Avenue between Cumberland Street and McBride Boulevard will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic on April 20, 21, 24, and 25 between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. A section of Glenbrook Drive between East Sixth Avenue and Eddie Drive will also be closed to traffic and parking during those periods. All roads will reopen for normal use at the end of each workday. All cars parked in the closure areas must be moved by 7:00 am.
For a portion of this work, the greenway will be closed and cyclists will be required to share the road with vehicle traffic. Some sidewalk closures will also be required and pedestrians will be directed to use the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. Traffic control personnel will be on-site to assist the public in navigating the work site.

Overview
The new aquatics and community centre will be built adjacent to Canada Games Pool and Centennial Community Centre where the Sixth Avenue parking lot is currently located. This site location was selected to allow for Canada Games Pool and Centennial Community Centre to remain open during construction. Additionally, this site accounts for other site constraints including the presence of a large diameter Metro Vancouver sewer main that traverses the site.
Safety is a top priority throughout construction. To ensure the safety of the public, we ask that everyone obey all construction signage and access facilities from designated entrances only. Please note that as construction progresses, restricted areas may change or move.
Programs & Services
Please note that Canada Games Pool is now closed and only Centennial Community Centre will remain open during the remainder of construction.
Fitness equipment from Canada Games Pool is being relocated to the gymnasium at Centennial Community Centre, and gym programs that normally take place at Centennial Community Centre will be relocated to other recreation and community facilities. For more information, please visit www.newwestcity.ca/rec
Access
Pedestrians can access the existing facilities from East Sixth Avenue near the east lawn and from Cumberland Street.
Please note, access to Centennial Community Centre is limited to the rear entrance only.
Parking
During construction, there will be no access to the Sixth Avenue parking lot.
On-site parking is available in the Cumberland Street parking lot. Parking is limited and restricted to three hours and will be strictly enforced. On-street parking is available on Cumberland Street in both directions.
Facility users are reminded to arrive early for lessons and programs as parking will be limited and additional time may be required to walk from alternate parking locations. When possible, please also take advantage of the drop-off zone.
We encourage you to consider alternate modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, transit, and carpooling. Extra bike racks have been installed behind Centennial Community Centre.
Visitors who anticipate staying longer than three hours should plan to park on adjacent streets.
